Geographical
location
The town is located in central Serbia, in the valley
of the river Jasenica. The area is predominantly plain with mild hills
on the outskirts. The town is 80 kilometres away from Belgrade and 60
kilometres from Kragujevac.

characteristics
The municipality of Smederevska palanka could be
described as a predominantly rural surrounding with main industrial
plants located in the town itself. The town is also a spa, with springs
of high quality mineral water and modern sanatorium. The two most
important branches of economy in Smederevska palanka are agriculture and
industry.

Economic Activities
Agriculture
Half of the population of the
municipality lives in the surrounding villages and they are mostly
engaged in food production, their main products being corn, wheat,
fruits and vegetables. We envisage he agriculture as the strong point of
the economy of this area.
Industries
The basis of the industry in the municipality is The
Holding Corporation ‘’GOSA’’ which produces road
and railway vehicles, agriculture equipment, various metal constructions
and hypro-mechanic equipment.
Food processing industry is also an important segment, as well as
mineral water production plant.
Tourism
Since Smederevska palanka is a spa, with mineral water
springs and the sanatorium, it offers good basis for development of spa
tourism.
In the vicinity of Smederevska palanka there is an artificial lake
with small hotel near by. In season it attracts fisherman and people who
enjoy swimming in it.
Others
It is important to mention that there are a number of small private
enterprises, which in right circumstances, could be the basis of future
economic development of the Municipality of Smedervska palanka.

There are several football grounds and indoors and
outdoors basketball courts.
There is one open olympic swimming pool and several school gyms.

In the central town area there is a cinema and the
town theatre with long tradition of amateur theatre festivals.
There is also the town gallery, library and a museum with valuable
collection of pictures and archaeological exhibits.

There is a large number of societies, associations
and clubs, such as different sport clubs, folk dancing groups, choirs,
youth association, association of painters, mountain climbers, retired
people, scouts and guides, etc.
Historical
Connections
The history of Smederevska palanka is over one thousand years long.
It goes back to roman times, medieval Serbia State, over the period of
Turkish rule, two world wars up to the present time. The monuments and
relics from all these periods could be found here of special importance
are churches and monasteries of medieval Serbia.

We would like a partner town of a similar size, with friendly
co-operative attitude, where people are aware of all the hardship we
have been faced with for the last ten years, and ready to support our
desire to open and communicate with the world.

rest of the world there are none at the moment.
